Welcome to Elaine's Retirement Journal

I retired from John Muir Health as a Project Manager on May 22, 2011 after several attempts at doing so.
This blog is to experience my new Projects as Project Manager, Leisure.
I have several other blogs related to all the Morgan's Over America- see links.
As my Sister and I went together on the same trip to Provence this summer, and as she is a much better writer than I am, I have provided links to her writing where appropriate.

GERMANY II AND AUSTRIA I

Our beautiful day in Bad Wiesse ended with our having dinner at our hotel with new XKE friends from the UK.  Others had gone to town for dinner, but we were tired so stayed in the hotel, which was fortunate because it started raining.
The following day was another "driving day' with us finally getting into the Alps. We continued on the Deutsch Alpine Highway and drove in and out of Germany and Austria.

There were diversions, when roads were unexpectedly closed. We had lowered the roof (top) on the car as a clear day was expected. We managed to skirt a few big black clouds which had dumped their rain just before we arrived in several towns.
Lunch was a bowl of wonderful tomato soup in a little bier garden in Reit IM Winkl. Afternoon took us through Berchtesgarden National Park in (I think) Germany. You can pretty much tell if you are in Germany or Austria if you have to pay for the toilets or not (Germany yes, Austria no)

We stopped at the Hitler Documentation Center and Eagle's Nest, but didn't have enough time, or interest to visit them. Those who did visit them thought them interesting, but very sad. The view was pretty, tho'.
Arriving at our beautiful hotel in Kitzbuhel, Austria a big ski resort town, we rested before a lovely group dinner, happy that tomorrow would be a sleep in day and day of rest.

While we did "sleep in", it wasn't much of a day of rest in Kitzbuhel. By noon, we were walking to town, in search of the ski lift to the top of the mountain We ran into others from our group- Ian and Joyce who were also going up the mountain.

A temperature of 15 degrees Celsius was posted at the bottom of the lift for the temperature at the top, so we debated if we needed to return for sweaters. We chose not to, Ian chose to go get them. It was very warm at the top....
While at the top of the lift, I enjoyed meat goulash soup and Philip had potato goulash soup. The weather was PERFECT....
After returning down the hill, we headed for the "old town" of Kitzbuhel to walk around. Ice cream called to us, so we enjoyed ice cream and a beer.

My feet were sore and tired by the time we walked back to our hotel, so we headed for a swim in the beautiful infinity pool.

Dinner was not a planned group thing, so we went to McDonald's, running into John and Gail, who had also been craving fine scottish food .

Tomorrow is another driving day, with showers predicted. We will see...we are getting better at putting the top up and down on the Morgan.

Didn't you learn the taking-the-top-on-and-off-the-Morgan routine on your last trip? Or did you never get to take it off then?
