CAR BARN- T-1 COMPLETED

The T-1 and Hardi-board have been completed on Philip's car barn. The insulation to keep him and the Morgans, especially, is installed. However we had a new inspector for the insulation, and he failed the inspection because once the wall board is installed, he thinks he can't finalize the little things that he indicates need fixing; the way the bathroom receptacle is grounded- if done his way, it will invalidate the warranty on the receptacle; a cut off switch outside for the electricity- the electricity comes from the house, so if the fireman turns off the cut off switch at the garage, it will still be a live wire; the porch isn't built so he can't see how it is connected to the building.

Hence, no wallboard is being installed Monday, as the contractor needs to get the change for the deck engineered, which will take some time.  We requested a walkway deck from the side deck (to be on the left) to the driveway so we don't have to go up and down stairs to Phil's work room. Alas we are getting older and any opportunity to not fall is critical to us. 

Tomorrow we go to Lowe's to select doors, hardware, carpet, etc.

Inspections Passed

After waiting for 2 weeks while the Tuolumne County Inspectors were on furlough, a different inspector came today to check that the nails were 6 inches apart on the edges and 12 inches in-between on the T1 siding. This inspection had to be completed before insulation could be added to the exterior walls. Craig and Tom had finished all the carpentry work that could be done, including decreasing the height of the stairs from an 8" rise to 7 3/4". This was accomplished by thinner steps and putting them at a slight angle with a shim. Having the stairs sloping down is within code, while 8 inches isn't. Go figure. It used to be up to a 9 inch rise.
The electrician came and completed his work and the plumber also did his work. Naturally, there were additional "work orders" for all the items that weren't included in the original contract. This items are adding up rapidly.
This afternoon the inspector completed his work and we PASSED. Only one action item for the plumber. So tomorrow the insulation installation begins.
Sister and I are heading out tomorrow  to see the American movie version of Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, We saw the Swedish subtitled one on Christmas eve.

ADD SIDING, PLUMBING, ELECTRICITY

Sister sent me these new pictures she took of our new Car Barn. Most of the windows are in, most of the exterior T1 has been applied, the Plumber has done his work and the electrician is working this week.  Due to the dry weather,  Contractor Craig and Carpenter Tom (also a contractor with no work) have been very busy working on this alone

ROOF TRUSSES ARRIVE TODAY

All the framing has been completed and the roof trusses arrived today.

 The driver arrived earlier than expected y from Oakdale, so we had to dash out quickly to take pictures.

Naturally the trusses weren't loaded on the truck in the order they needed to be laid on the framing.

 The driver was a very patient man, who moved and removed trusses to get them to their needed location. There are trusses for the lower garage and the upper garage, which required moving the very large truck to complete the task.

Also completed today was the stairway from the lower storage room to the upper storage room.

Next week the trusses will be set in place.

DAY 34- Gravel Laid Down

Just prior to the rain, the Greg laid the gravel down for both driveways and the parking pad. To the lower right is the lower garage floor, and the upper garage is above the framing. As of today, Monday Oct 10, two f the upper walls have been framed. Pictures tomorrow.

Day 30 or So-Lower concrete and Upper Framing

I am behind on postings due to preparations for our son's wedding this week. There will be no pictures for the next week, as framing is being done on the upper garage.
The lower garage had its 4 inch concrete floor poured this week. The 4 inches is so husband can have a "lift" to work on his cars. You can also see the framing for the floor of the upper garage.

The framing to support the upper garage is also completed. After plywood, concrete will be poured over this suspended floor.

The unexpected, expensive, retaining wall to keep the driveway and the people from falling from the upper driveway.

At the far right of the retaining wall will be a path down to the lower level stairs (another "work order") in order to allow access to this hill for landscaping purposes and to travel from the upper garage to the house if one doesn't want to go through the garage, through the man cave and out the lower stairs.
I asked husband, what is "this wall". He didn't tell me because it wasn't a "work order $$$". Apparently the concrete contractor kicked the wall at the right, and it collapsed and broke a piece off, probably because of an air pocket. So this new wall is a fix for the broken wall. Hmmm... I wonder how many other air pockets there are?
